Romans 6: Sin Will Not Have Dominion
This sermon unpacks Romans 6:14–15 by contrasting indicatives (what is already true in Christ) with imperatives (what believers are commanded to do). Paul’s declaration that “sin will have no dominion over you” is rooted in the reality that believers are no longer “under law but under grace.” Being under the law means relying on our own obedience to earn righteousness, which only exposes our failure and keeps sin in charge. Being under grace means trusting Christ’s finished work and receiving his “alien righteousness,” so every victory over sin is the fruit of his grace, not our willpower. The sermon also walks through Galatians and Acts 15 to show how the early church rejected law-keeping as a basis for justification, calling believers to fight sin from a position of already-secured victory in Christ.
