Romans 7: The Saint and Sinner Within

Sep 7, 2025    Steve Wayne

In this message, Pastor walks through Romans 7:14–25 and the honest tension of the Christian life: we are both saint and sinner at the same time. He contrasts the goodness of God’s law with our inability to keep it, explains how the law exposes and even stirs up indwelling sin, and shows why believers still experience inner war even after being born again. The sermon anchors on Paul’s cry, “Wretched man that I am… who will deliver me?” and answers with the hope found in Christ alone, now and in the future redemption of our bodies (Romans 8:23). Along the way, he connects this theology to everyday frustrations, relational conflict, and the need to keep our eyes on Jesus instead of pretending we’ve “arrived.” The service then moves into a powerful baptism testimony of God’s healing grace through trauma, depression, and forgiveness, and closes with communion, highlighting the quiet impact of church community on one another’s faith and perseverance.
