Romans 8: Jesus Our Scapegoat and Final Atonement

Nov 9, 2025    Steve Wayne

This sermon walks through Romans 8:1-4 and Leviticus 16 to show how Jesus becomes both the sacrifice and the scapegoat who carries our sin away. We see that the law is perfect, but our flesh is weak, and no amount of self-condemnation or performance can make us righteous. Instead, God does what we could never do by sending His Son in the likeness of sinful flesh as an offering for sin, bearing our iniquity and satisfying God’s wrath once for all. The message calls believers to lay down the “condemnation stick” and live in the freedom, assurance, and joy that come from Christ’s finished atonement.
