Romans 6: Slaves of Righteousness Under Grace

Jul 13, 2025    Steve Wayne

In this sermon on Romans 6:14–19, we look at what it really means to no longer be under law but under grace. Paul confronts both legalism and antinomianism, showing that everyone is a slave either to sin or to obedience that leads to righteousness. Because Christ has broken sin’s dominion and given us a new heart by the Spirit, believers are no longer slaves to sin but slaves of righteousness. We explore how indicatives (what God has done) empower imperatives (how we live), why casual attitudes toward sin reveal our true master, and how God’s new covenant promises change our desires from the inside out, fueling a lifelong, imperfect but real fight against sin.
