Romans 7: The Good Law and the New Way of the Spirit

Aug 24, 2025    Steve Wayne

This sermon walks through Romans 7:1–13 to show that God’s law is holy, righteous, and good, but completely unable to make sinners righteous. Using Paul’s marriage illustration, it explains how believers have “died to the law” in Christ so they can now “belong to another” and finally bear fruit for God. The law reveals God’s character, exposes our sin, restrains evil, and shows what pleases God, but only the Holy Spirit writing that law on our hearts can change our desires and produce real obedience. The call is to live in the “new way of the Spirit,” trusting Christ’s righteousness, walking in relationship with God, and bearing the fruit that proves a new heart.
