Romans 8: No Condemnation Now
In this sermon from Romans 8:1–2, we explore the staggering reality that there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Pastor unpacks the difference between guilty feelings and the eternal condemnation of God’s wrath, showing how that judgment was fully poured out on Christ in our place. From there, he contrasts the “law of sin and death” with the “law of the Spirit of life,” explaining how the superior power of the Holy Spirit breaks sin’s dominion and sets believers truly free.
Drawing on Romans 7, he acknowledges the ongoing struggle with sin, but anchors our assurance in what God has already done, not in our performance. Practical applications include fighting sin as forgiven people, resting in God’s favor instead of striving to earn it, and rejecting the world’s distorted definitions of identity, beauty, and worth in favor of our true identity “in Christ.” The sermon uses vivid illustrations, including the “two towers” of sin and death and the image of a rescued, healing sinner safely inside the fortress of Christ. The message concludes at the communion table, proclaiming Christ’s death, the defeat of sin and death, and our growing freedom through the Spirit’s ongoing work.
