Romans 12:3–8 — Every Believer Has a Gift to Serve

Jan 18, 2026    Steve Wayne

This sermon continues the church’s theme of “tree health” for the year, building on the first two messages about reading the Bible (Psalm 1) and trusting God through prayer (Jeremiah 17). The focus this week is how believers bear fruit together through spiritual gifts and service.

Drawing from Romans 12, 1 Corinthians 12, and 1 Peter 4, the message explains that every Christian has received a grace gift (charisma) from God. These gifts vary widely, but they all come from the same Spirit and are given not for personal recognition but for the good of the church and the glory of God. Just as a body has many parts with different functions, the church thrives when each member uses their unique gifts.

The sermon challenges believers not to compare themselves with others or hide out of fear or insecurity, but instead to start serving wherever possible. Spiritual gifts are often discovered through action and faithful service rather than tests or labels. When the church reads Scripture, prays, and actively serves one another, it becomes a healthy body that bears fruit and reflects Christ to the world.
